When Cathy Callahan asked us to make a macramé-inspired project for her book Vintage Craft Workshop, we were totally up for the challenge. We had tried our hands at macramé a couple times in the past, but hadn't succeeded in shedding the '70s vibe (although we do love a good '70s wall hanging!) and making it look modern. After a little trial and error and yards and yards of rope and twine, we came up with a simple plant hanger design, made out of white cotton clothesline and inspired by sailor's knots, that is super easy to make.
Other craft projects featured in the book take their inspiration from Cathy's massive collection of vintage craft books and memorabilia, using some of our favorite materials, such as burlap, felt, paper and yarn. (We're in love with Diane Gilleland's Mod Circle Placemats and Nicole Vasbinder's Citrus Slice Bulletin Board, and can't wait to make some of our own!)
Cathy will be in town next week to do an installation in one of our shoppe windows featuring projects from the book, and we'll be celebrating the launch of Vintage Craft Workshop with a little party and book signing next Saturday from 4-7pm. Please join us! (If you can't make it, signed copies of the book will be available on our site.)
