Please excuse our extended absence from Smarts & Crafts! Hard to believe it's been over a month. I wish I could say we've been on vacation somewhere lounging in the sun, but the truth is, we've been extra busy juggling shoppe duties with other various freelance projects that have come our way, as well as taking care of the wee one. Lots has happened over the past few weeks- we bid teary farewells to our awesome shoppe gals Lauren and Emily, and welcomed Brandon to the shoppe famille with open arms. We brought little Arrow to quite a few business meetings and he charmed the pants off everyone around, and our gallery space was transformed into a mossy and mysterious land by our old pal Lorna Leedy and some of her amazing and talented friends.
Animal Homes & Sasquatch Sightings is a group show featuring work by Lorna Leedy, Wes Cleaver, Caroline Rankin, Ricki Hill, Gina Coffman, Seth Damm and Thomas R. Brierly. Conceived and curated by Lorna, the installation includes photos of mini, imagined habitats built and shot in Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, where she lives for half of the year. Bracket fungus and props from the animal habitats adorn one wall of our space, and a felt mural (which visitors were invited to decorate during the opening) lines another. If you walk by at night you'll see a spooky Sasquatch film projected in one of shoppe windows. Not to mention Ricki Hill's shadowbox display and the furry tv! It's all too good to miss, so come on by the shoppe before September 18th to check it out.
